Electrical Hazards, Concerns, and Consequences (Intermediate) Jeff Nyboer, President, Gates Electric, Inc.; and Gord Bosch, Electrical Inspection Service, LLC. 

This session will review the events and conditions that contributed to a preventable incident that occurred on a construction project.  The fatal event involved live electrical components and the new installation of an electrical panel.  Discussion will include the hazards associated with this type of work and the results of what can happen when electricians are not properly protected when working around energized cables and equipment.

Top 10 – Health, General Industry and Construction (Intermediate) Jenelle Thelen, Industrial Hygienist, MIOSHA; Chris Johnson, General Industry Safety Consultant, MIOSHA; Jim Getting, Construction Safety Consultant, MIOSHA.

This program has been an annual favorite at the conference with both safety and health violations being discussed.  Three experienced CET consultants (health, general industry and construction) will illustrate what enforcement and consultation employees are finding in the workplace that often lead to workplace injuries and illnesses.  They will help unravel the mystery and explain the hazards behind the most cited 10 safety, 10 health, and 10 construction rules by MIOSHA in the past year.  They will also offer tips and solutions to help employers and employees recognize and correct these hazards.

This presentation will chronicle the journey of two Voluntary Protection Program participants from Conditional STAR status to STAR.  Many best practices will be identified and discussed.  These sites know how to put the WOW in safety!

(Intermediate) Jennifer Clark-Denson, Senior Safety Consultant, MIOSHA CET Division; Terrilyn Jones, Departmental Supervisor, MIOSHA Management Information Systems Section; and Bridget Furchak, Industrial Hygienist, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).

Presenters from MIOSHA CET Division, MIOSHA’s Management Information Systems Section, and Federal OSHA will update attendees on the status of the new system for electronic submission of injury and illness records to OSHA.  Also presented will be information on Severe Injury and Illness Reporting.

Walking, Working Surfaces (Intermediate) John Bodnar, MIOSHA CET Safety Consultant.

This presentation will discuss major changes to the requirements for walking-working surfaces and fall protection in general industry.  Walking-working surfaces include floors, aisles, stairways, runways, ladders, ramps, elevated platforms, roofs, and scaffolds.  Because walking-working surfaces are found in every workplace, all places of employment in general industry will be affected.
