Active Shooter-What is Your Plan? (Intermediate)

Dr. Kenneth Wolf, Incident Management Team/Center for Workplace Violence Prevention

This program will focus on emotional and survival strategies to survive active assailant incidents.  Expanding on the DHS suggestions of “Run, Hide, Fight”, this program will show how to develop a survival plan to recognize danger, understand human “fight, flight, freeze reactions”, assess tactical “choices” to consider, and to take action!  Videos of active shooting incidents will demonstrate survival defensive and perpetrator engagement “choices” in various shooter situations.

De-Escalating the Angry Worker, Customer, Citizen (Intermediate)

Work-life stresses from Covid-19, extreme ideologies, inflation, and community violence, have caused employees to sometimes deal with angry, entitled or difficult people.  Content will include:  Verbal Diffusion Techniques to help de-escalate angry people; recognizing “affective” versus “predatory” violence; verbal and non-verbal pre-attack indicators; “Rules of Engagement” with challenging people; the “ABCs” of Verbal Diffusion; Active Listening Skills; and Personal Safety Considerations.

Cannabis Safety and Security (Basic)

Cannabis is legal in 23 states. However, national standards do not exist for safety nor security. The speaker will discuss and share Michigan standards, gaps in the standards, and the future state of both safety and security in the cannabis industry.

Past workplace violent incidents have shown there is often a trajectory of warning signs which may result in violent acts. Aggressor behaviors of concern and effective threat management strategies will be described. Actual case histories and videos will demonstrate key examples. “Best Practices” for implementing a Company Threat Assessment Team and Workplace Violence Prevention System will be outlined.
