2025 Darryl C. Hill Safety Professional of the year award Nomination Form

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Michigan Safety Professional of the Year award is to recognize and honor an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership, and development in advancing the safety profession. The individual shall have a history of professional achievement and development both within their organization and the broader safety community.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the 2025 Darryl C. Hill Safety Professional of the Year Award, the nominee must: 

  • Be engaged in full-time employment in the safety/health profession or not retired more than one year from full-time employment in the safety or health profession. Resident or most of the safety professional’s work is within Michigan for a Michigan based organization.
  • Have a minimum of ten years’ experience in the field of safety and/or health.
  • Not be a current member of the Michigan Safety Conference Board of Directors.
  • Not be a former winner of the Michigan Safety Conference Darryl C. Hill “Safety Professional of the Year” award in the past 5 years. (If previously awarded, must demonstrate criteria that is above and beyond what was previously recognized.)
  • No evidence of breach of ethical or legal standards, laws, or practices that would potentially diminish the integrity of the award or damage the reputation of the Michigan Safety Conference.


JUDGING CRITERIA

Judging will be based on, but not limited to, the following criteria:

Within current and previous positions:

  • Demonstrate technical expertise in the field of safety and health
  • Specialized knowledge of their specific industry segment
  • Thorough knowledge of the operational aspects of their position
  • Program creation, development, and innovation
  • Support and synergy with corporate goals and objective
  • Internal communications and information sharing

Professional contributions to advance the safety profession such as accomplishments:

  • Involvement in codes and legislation
  • Industry program creation, development, and innovation (outside of their organization)
  • Engagement in safety, health, and environmental organizations (local, state, national)
  • Other significant safety-related activities
  • Guest speaking
  • Mentoring
  • Teaching
  • Publications
  • Podcasts

Professional achievement/development:

  • Certifications
  • Education
  • Other awards/recognition

Leadership attributes: (As described and evidenced by references/letters of support)

  • Ethical/character/reputation/values

PLEASE NOTE

Petitions for the Darryl C. Hill Safety Professional of the Year must be submitted using the form below no later than January 31, 2025.

Your comments must be included with the nomination detailing the contributions the nominee has made to the field of safety and health. If this pertinent information is not inlcuded below, the judges will not consider the nominee as a candidate for Safety Professional of the Year.
